DBASE PROGRAM PROBLEMS

By KATDANTY ·
WE ARE USING AN OLD PROGRAM THAT WAS WRITTEN WITH DBASE III+, WE WERE USING WINDOWS 95 AND HAD NO PROBLEMS NOW WE ARE FORCED TO USE WINDOWS NT AND WINDOWS 2000 ON SOME OF OUR COMPUTERS. THE PROBLEM IS THAT WHEN WE SHARE THE DATA BASE BETWEEN THE OLDER COMPUTERS AND THE NEWER ONES THE DATA COMES BACK CORRUPT AND SOME OF THE INFO IS LOST. IS THERE A PATCH OR SOMETHING WE CAN DOWNLOAD TO RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM?

DBASE PROGRAM PROBLEMS

by Stillatit In reply to DBASE PROGRAM PROBLEMS

The problem is probably that the newer systems do not honor the sharing conventions that the old DOS share.exe used, or you are not running the equivalent of share.exe on your newer systems when you invoke a command window. Remember that no matter what it looks like on the screen, dBASE III+ is a 16-bit DOS application.

Your best solution is probably running the program under Visual Foxpro. Probably not what you wanted to hear. The good news is that the conversion is not all that hard.

Good luck.
