Dbl Click on .msi - access to specified device, path, or file is denied

By garthjones85 ·
I am unable to run any .msi files

- I have tried to reinstall the microsoft Installer
- I have followed an MS remove and reinstall process that renames the old and then reinstalls the Installer Redis 3.0

I still however am unable to run any .msi files. Running Win2000 SP4

Appreciate any help / suggestion. Thanks

Maybe a policy setting?

Is this computer a member of a domain? A business network with a Server? It could be a security policy denying you of installing using Windows Installer. Even if it is not a member of a domain, a local security policy could be in place...some viruses can changes these settings.

Click on the "Start menu" - "Run" - gpedit.msc (enter)

Then navigate to: Computer Configuration - Administrative Templetes - Windows Components - Windows Installer. Look for anything that might be configured or enabled, like "Disable WIndows Installer" or "Prohibit User installs".

I could be totally off on your issue, but this is worth a look in my opinion. =] (can't hurt)
