Anyone know how the proper way to input vendor specific info (first 3 octets in a MAC address), in the DHCP Scope options. Trying to set up DHCP so that two sets of NICS will grab from one pool, and one set will grab from another. Any help will beappreciated.

If your only dealing with a couple of machines, just do reservations for them. It should make life a little easier.

I am dealing with 200 machines, does your solution still apply?

There are no DHCP scope options that allow you to filter which computers are allowed to receive a DHCP supplied IP addresses based on MAC address (or any other parameter).

The "043 Vendor Specific Info" option is not used as a filter. It is used to distribute Vendor specific information. The types of information that can be distributed is defined by the vendor of the specific DHCP implementation. See paragraph 8.4 at the following URL:

http://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc1533.txt

Theonly way to do what you are attempting would be to create a DHCP reservation (which is tied to a specific MAC address) within the appropriate scope, for each client computer. You would essentially be applying fixed IP addresses while receiving the benefits of DHCP supplied DNS information.

Hope this helps.
