DCPromo error Demoting Domain Controller

By pricepd ·
For some reason when I ran dcpromo to promote a 2nd win2k server to a domain controller it doesn't show up in the
active directory for sites and services.

So I have decided to demote the server with
dcpromo, but when I do I get this error.
[The operation failed because:
the Directory Service failed to replicate off changes made locally.
"The DSA object could not be found"]

Any Ideas how to fix the problem? (either get the new domain controller to show up in active directroy for sites and services or Demote the Domain Controller.)

Make sure that your local DNS server allows dynamic updates. Open DNS snap-in, right-click the server, properties, select YES to allow dynamic updates. Stop and restart the netlogon service on the 2nd DC. This will re-register it's srv records. From there you can demote the server. (I guess I'm assuming you are running DNS on the w2k DC1)
