Decoder Error on Windows Media Center

By aiavive ·
I am changed my computer to Windows Media Center, can you tell me what(if) I'm doing something wrong. The software of the WinTV-PVR-150/500MCE board is just drivers, there's no decoder. I have PowerDVD, the error message is:
Decoder Error
The video decoder has either malfunctioned or is not installed. Please restart Media Center and/or the computer

Download another dvd decoder. intervideo windvd and works fine

The Nvidia decoder is particularly nice because it puts an app into More Programs in MCE so you can twiddle the settings.

Check it out here http://www.nvidia.com/object/dvd_decoder.html

Setup and Troubleshooting
Instructions for a fresh MCE system set up:
1. Build MCE PC
2. ENSURE you are using an MCE VGA driver NOT standard reference drivers. Both ATI and Nvidia have specific MCE drivers on their websites.
3. Load / Set-up and complete MCE OS installation (Do not run Media Centre application at this stage)
4. Power Down and install Hauppauge Nova-T/MCE card
5. Place Hauppauge Nova-T/MCE driver disc (SUPPLIED with the Nova-T/MCE card) in ROM drive and allow driver detection
6. Download/Purchase the NVIDIA DVD Decoder (US$19.95), go to www.nvidia.com/object/dvd_decoder.html press the "Buy Now >" button (near top on the right), add the qty (example "1") to the qty section at the bottom and then select "add to cart" follow the prompts that follow to complete the sale/download
7. Install NVIDIA DVD Decoder
8. Reboot
9. Run Media Centre application and complete set-up wizard and tuning procedure
10. You're Done!
Instructions if you are correcting a pre-set-up MCE System with the "Decoder Error" or alike:
1. ENSURE the Nova-T/MCE driver is installed from the CD ROM SUPPLIED with the Nova-T/MCE
2. ENSURE you are using an MCE VGA driver NOT standard reference drivers. Both ATI and Nvidia have specific MCE drivers on their websites
4. Uninstall ANY "Power DVD", "WinDVD" etc software DVD players you may have installed

in previous occations i known people who have "winTV" and have problems playing dvd's, or other items with WM.
Although the nvidia decoder is a nice one to own, is not for free. if what you want in a free decoder then just go to "http://cliprex.com/" to obtain a free decoder.
P.S. Since is free, it comes with harmless adware.
