Recently I came across Deep Ofix mail server from a company called deeprootlinux.
My current test machine is an old Dell Optiplex GX150. 1.2Ghz Celeron, 512 Mb pc100 ram, 10Gb hard drive. The mailserver would not install using the built in video on either the 1 Mb or 8 Mb video buffer settings. The addition of an old 64Mb Nvidia Agp card allowed me to begin installing. Without this card, the “text” based installer would skip right to the exit stage (a bug?). I am now on my 5th install attempt on this hardware (about 20 min per shot), and each time I am getting a little closer. I know the software works, because it set up in a Vmware VM (using ide hard drive, not scsi) with no problems. Has anyone else looked at this product, and if so, what are the opinions?
While it is not anywhere near enough to replace our Exchange setup, it looks like it could be a good server for a home based buisness, or an emergency backup server.
I see a good direction in this product, in that it is attempting to make a linux mail server a simple task to install and configure.
Opinions? Similar products? Thoughts? Flames?
