Default Homepage

By compserv ·
When adding a user to an XP workstation, the user sets up just fine with two exceptions. The default home page for each user goes back to msn.com and the quick launch goes away. We want the IE default homepage to be our company page and we do want to use the quick launch.
We are logging on to a Windows 2003 domain controller.

To be perfectly honest to add a new user to the PC a systems tech or admin should be at the PC anyway, if it is joining a corporate network.

For each new user the quick launch of I.E will diassaper and also MSN will be the ste as the default homepage in Internet Explorer.
The easiest way to change this is to open Intenet explorer click tools and then Intenet Options and in the address space under the general tab remove Http://www.msn.com and replace with
http://www.yourcompaniespage.whatever
Ensure that if it is an Intranet site then remove the www it will simply be http://yourcompaniespage.com

To get a quick launch simply drag the internet explorer icon onto the quick launch bar.

Policies through the Active Directory is the best method to handle this. Using the Policy you can have all members of the domain automatically have the same IE and Desktop settings.

This can also be handled with a logon script.

Or you can create a tempuser account, set it up as you want it (homepage, etc.) then the contents of C:\Documents and Settings\tempuser\ to the C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\ profile.
