Default printers

By grif ·
I am running a mixed Microsoft Network: NT4 Servers with Win2000 Professionel workstations.
All the Network printers are installed with the correct drivers on every workstation, yet users don't see any printer installed when they log on. How can I make the printers installed on a workstation available to every user who logs on the la workstation?

You can do it with a mandatory profile but that can enforce a lot of other settings too and may be too restrictive for you. Another method is to setup a default account, then login and make whatever modifications you want (such as adding a printer). Copy the customized default user to create new user accounts. The WIN 2000 resource kit describes how to pre-install a printer for users.

With windows 2000, installing a printer with the original administrator account will put the printer in all existing profiles and new user profiles.
