Believe it or not, building a bullet point list of qualities / roles &
responsibilities of an IT Manager is a tough task – there’s no
resources on the net that I can find. Okay, so I see that there are
different type’s / level’s of IT Management. But let’s put these
parameters on it – I want to know what an IT Manager of a SME
(10 – 150 employee size company) should be responsibile for.
My line of thought is sourcing the right hardware and software,
implementing / negotiating SLA’s with service providers and
getting aqequate IT support. But let’s say the companies budget
providers for an IT Manager, or even part time IT Manager, what
areas should that person cover. Web design / e-business
strategy – I think they should assist, consult, draft.
So please, I’d love to build a doc with bullet points of what an
SME IT Manager should take care of. Also, what qualifications /
experience should that person have? I don’t believe they need to
be a programmer, designer, or other high-tech person, but
rather a business person with sound IT knowledge. Again,
correct me if I’m wrong.
