Why not?

OK, so that was a little terse, but really, can you provide a bit more info? Like what OS, what defrag product, any error messages, etc.

In general, assuming you're running some form of Windoze(tm), then you should be able to just "doit". But first you should shut off all services (like PWS, anti-virus, mail servers, etc.) and exit all applications (including MSOffice Toolbar). Then try running defrag. And leave the box alone while it works.

Your Message:
"I'm having trouble with pagefile that I think is effecting the defrag. I've went to change the size of the pagefile but no matter what #s i use i get too small upon reboot?
I'm using win 2000 pro on a home machine and I have 384 mbof ram and 13 gb of free mem.I tried to delete diskeeper cause I thought that was the problem and it wouldn't let met so I'm stuck???"

2nd things first, you probably need to get rid of DK. It's an app. that I personally like, but if it's been giving you trouble, best to get rid of it for now.

If trying to run the proper uninstall, failed for you, you will need to go through the back door, which for me means killing the directory, and then cleaning the Registry, manually. Reboot a couple of times.

Your pagefile should be at least twice as big as your RAM (a rule of thumb that I find handy - hardly scientific, though). HAve you gone that big? Of course, if you really need to defrag badly, you may not be able to do that. Catch-22.You say get a message "too small". Hmm, I've never seen that before. At what point does that come up?

Easiest way to avoid problems with degrag is to boot safe mode and then run it. Hit f8 when the "Starting Windows 95..." appears and you will be given the option to select safe mode.
