Defragmenting NT Server & Workstations

By spawn ·
I have 3 year's old NT4 9GB compaq server, it has been reported by the clients that is running slower than before. I have never defrag the disk. What is the best program for defragmenting NT today. How many times and how frequently it has to be defragmented. + Does the NT4 Workstations has to be defrag too?

Diskeeper

by Adamus In reply to Defragmenting NT Server & ...

The utility I use is Diskeeper, which comes in W9x, NT Workstation, NT Server and W2K versions. I run it usually once a month on my Workstation, and on a Server I only use it when disk performance starts getting low and the most likely cause is fragmentation. This doesn't happen often though. Look for a shareware version on Download.com.

The utility recommended by Microsoft is the (free) Diskeeper Lite. Available at http://www.execsoft.com/

Diskeeper only

I think the only product out there to defrag NT is Diskeeper. At least the only one that has the positive reviews. I use mine daily, watching the MFT and pagefile for problems. It works well.
