Delay when unlocking XP workstation

By Matt_SF ·
I am experiencing a delay of approx 1-2 min when I unlock one of my XP SP2 workstations. The delay does not exist upon initial boot up or upon re-boot. This is NOT spyware, a virus, or a start-up program issue, and I have even changed the Winlogon/DcacheMinInterval timeout in the registry (WAY back to NT 4). Does anyone have any idea why this would be happening and what I could do to fix it? Thank you.

Having Same Issue x 2

by gbents In reply to Delay when unlocking XP w ...

I recently uninstalled the NetOctopus client from my laptop and desktop, and also removed the registry entries and set the service to manual for Timbuk2. Since doing the above, I am experiencing a 15 to 30 second delay when unlocking with XP SP2.

Very interesting.......

I think the common element here is Timbuktu. I set the service to manual as well due to excessive memory usage. I'll mess around with those settings and post back here to let you know what I discover.

TB2Launch indeed! Thanks

I posted my problem without reading all the threads - I had in fact just changed Tb2 launch service to manual and that was it. Back to automatic and issue is resolved!

TB2Launch is the culprit!

by gbents In reply to Having Same Issue x 2

If the Tb2Launch service 'Startup type' is set to "manual" or "disabled" I experience the delay when unlocking the screen. If it is set to "automatic", I do not experience the delay.

Thanx a million for posting this. I was baffled. Its good to know that there are real IT-Pros that actually solve problems instead of resorting to reimaging.

I dual-installed vista on my pc as xp was locking up like this. after 2 months of headaches, went back to xp and decided to live with it, and then read this. like all mac-related software I use timbuctu only reluctantly, so the service was set to disabled. Bizarre. Now its gone entirely, and my lovely XP machine is back in business!
