delete icons through script file

By soatone ·
I need to write a script file to delete icons for a program in Windows XP. It's an older program not designed for XP so it doesn't uninstall well. I want to be able to find the icons in any profile on the computer. This is the hard part because profiles are not the same from computer to computer and no computer would have the same amount of profiles.

I thought I had it with:
DIR file.ext /S | DEL file.ext

But when I run this I get the error message: ?Could not find C:\file.ext?

Any help would be appreciated.
