Delete Me

If you people cannot control and delete Users who are only creating ZOMBIES OR SPAMMING, then Delete Me from your Forums and Disable My ID and just not Disable me from posting. Its DISGUSTING the genuine Users are treated here like these. TechRepublic has gone from BAD to Worse to WORST with every ugrade since I joined in 1999. I would finally like to say BYE!!!

Not sure what the problem was

by NickNielsen In reply to Delete Me

There's nothing wrong with a zombie thread, usually, except that it's been inactive for several months or longer. If you come across spam in a zombie thread, simply mark the spam and let the zombie sink back into the well of threads. No need to make a big issue of it.

I believe, looking at a couple of those threads in which you posted zombie alerts, somebody flagged your posts as either offensive or spam. I don't think the multiple posts in each thread helped.

Sorry to see you go, bro.

But I cannot fault you for your decision.

Best wishes,

While I don't like the new format much,

by CharlieSpencer In reply to Delete Me

I don't think we're seeing any more spam or zombies than we were under the old layout. As to the way users are treated, it isn't the staff that is posting the spam; it's the spammers who are treating us disgustingly.

I think in the new format

it is harder to spot the spammer, before you could see who the last poster was to a discussion and if the name was odd you and I would check it out, now not so clear, you have to open the discussion to see who posted.

The problem is that spam isn't dealt with quicly enough once marked.

by seanferd In reply to I think in the new format

The other issue has always been that spammers accounts aren't killed. Like, duh.

I think spam is currently more noticeable due to the lack of zombie and spam threads being buried - not enough normal posting in the forums. Plus, dead stuff seems to come to the top of the 3 "Featured" threads which has been inactive for some time. Don't know what that is all about.

Spam used to be dealt with pretty quickly.

Then the 'upgrade' took away the tools for dealing with it quickly. X-(

Yeah, I know.

And the list of posts, seen when looking at another user's profile, being limited to four, does not help with marking all of a bulk spammer's multiple posts.

How so?

The tools are better in my opinion. Mods can delete the message right at the message level plus there's still the same old Community Tool that we used on the old site. Ping me with an email if there's something I'm missing.

I stated pretty specifically what the issue is.

by seanferd In reply to How so?

When viewing a user's profile, a small. limited number of recent posts is displayed: four per category. So, if a spammer posts more than four posts which are not easily discernible by viewing the lists, they will go un-flagged until someone stumbles upon them.

And since I've never seen a spammer account and all posts deleted, which may just be due to random experience on my part - I don't know, the community can be less helpful here.

I really don't know what your back end was like before, or what it is like now, so I cannot comment on that at all, excepting in reference to a post by Tammy. It seems that replies to a post or thread marked as spam make it more difficult for Tammy to clean up. Knowing this, I won't leave silly or snarky comments against a spam post any longer. But why should this make it more difficult for those deleting spam?

I'm certainly glad that you, and hopefully other TR employees, find the tools better. That's awesome, particularly if they solved nagging issues with the old system and help you to do new things.
