    Deleted Hijacker/ XP Problems

    Locked

    by vida ·

I recently got Hijacked by ISTSVC. Took forever to be able to delete if from the registry. Using Spybot,Pest Patrol and Nortons I was able to find it all.

I now have a clean scan. . . but I also am having problems with slow repsonse on opening progams, Icons and IE.

I will click the hour glass appears . . the hour glass disappears. . . and then 20 to 30 seconds later whatever I have clicked on appears . .of course with every thing else I have clicked on . . so I am slammed with pages and programs popping up.

I think I deleted too something from my registery I should not have. My XP PRO Upgrade from win2000 has never run seemlessly. I work around most of the problems.

This Hijacker may have finally given me more than I can handle.

    I have:

Reinstalled XP (It is the Pro Upgrade)
Looked at my MSCONFIG to see if anything is running that might be hanging.

I don’t see any problems in my “Run” in the Registery that would be causing the “hanging delay”

I am tempted to go get a new Hard Drive with a clean version of the complete XP OS and use it as my master drive and slave my current hard drive to it and use it as my secondary.

    Suggestions or is it FUBAR?

    Thanks, -v

Use a ctrl + alt + del to open your task manager. Click on the processes tab, then on the CPU box. It will queue up what is taking up the most of your processor.

If you don’t know what some of the processes are, go to http://www.google.com and look them up to see if they are valid processes or not. One spyware checker I didn’t see if you used was Microsoft’s.

      It is at: http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/about.mspx

You can read about it and download it at that link. Good luck.

A daunting task, do a back up of the important files and then use a windows 98 startup disk to wipe the drive clean

The last part of your comment is an option
