Deleted items return after reboot

By jfruits ·
Hello.

Environment: Windows 2000 Pro using roaming profiles on Windows NT 4.0 server SP6a.

Problem: The roaming profiles seem to work fine with one exception. Any items deleted from the desktop, favorites, or start menu return after restartingthe workstation. There are no mandatory profiles setup, and I have not setup any system policies. This is happening on all my Win2K workstations, but not my NT workstations.

Current Workaround: If I manually delete the roaming profile information off the server and then restart, the profile will save properly, and load properly on the next restart.

I thought this problem was limited to my PC, but I recently found out it was happening to others as well (nice of them to finally let me know!)

Any ideas?

Thanks

Deleted items return after reboot

it sounds like your user profile is saving to the local cache of the workstation you are logging in to, and not retrieving the server's version when you login again. I'd enable a system policy on your w2k machines that doesn't allow for roaming profiles to remain in cache on the local machine. I'd also recommend redirecting the destination of My Documents to a server share so that the profile retrieval process doesn't take as long with this policy implemented.

I hope this helps.

Mike

Deleted items return after reboot

The policy change you suggest does not change anything. I looked at it all a little more, and the profile is saving new and changed items to the profile on the server, it just does not remove items I've deleted from the profile. Thanks for the suggestion though!
