Deleting a folder on 2nd drive

By cstaunton ·
There is a file that is locking up my system whenever I access it. I am trying to delete the folder it is in. Trying to do this my system locks up. I went into dos (from a boot disk) but I am unable to see this drive, only the master drive.
WinXP SP1 intel 650mhz generic computer 512 megs ram. Have run adaware and spybot, anti virus hangs up on this file. This started 2 days ago. I tried a linux boot cd but am unable to see the 2nd hard drive.
Any ideas?

No I had not seen that. I tried it but it locked up in command prompt. Thanks for that future resource.

You might try using Symantec's Norton Utilities?

At first I was going to reject this answer. But I tried it and after a lot of work besides using SNU I was able to find a defect in the disk. Sometime it pays to keep it simple.... check disk/ scan disk... Thanks.

Need some more info.

1. Assume you have 2 physical hard drives. Are they partitioned as FAT32 or NTFS drives?

2. What is name of file?

3. Did you try to delete it in safe mode as suggested by Stan?

4. What AV software are you using?

Add a comment to your question with answers.
