deleting a screensaver

By truthreigns ·
I think I may have inadvertantly downloaded a malicious file as a screesaver. My question is Where can I locate that file to delete it. When I right click on the screen and go into properties there doesn't seem to any way to delete that screensaver which doesn't seen to act as a screesaver

A screensaver is an executable file with the extension .scr instead of .exe, and they typically reside in your Windows folder.

But you could search your entire hard drive for files named *.scr, just to be sure, then delete the offending one.

There's a nasty worm going around right now called Win32.Goner.A It's a new mass-mailer spreading via Microsoft Outlook that masquerades as a screen saver. It also has ICQ and mIRC spreading capabilities.

The worm attaches itself to an email withthe subject line "Hi", and attachment name "gone.scr". The message body reads:

How are you ?
When I saw this screen saver, I immediately thought about you I am in a harry, I promise you will love it!

Once activated, the worm display a message box about it's origin, and an error message "Error While Analyze DirectX!".

I suggest you run a virus scan too.

This web site gives pretty good instructions for cleaning that virus off of your PC. Go to:

http://www.antivirus.com/vinfo/virusencyclo/default5.asp?VName=WORM_GONE.A

Copy and paste the URL into your browser and remove any spaces that creeped into the address. Best wishes!
