Dell D600 - Power button does not work? (Video Included)

By farhad2k9 ·
Basically, the power button is either jammed or broken.
I was wondering if the chip shown in the video is a part of the mother board?
Has anyone had this prblem before??
Please help.

Welll first of all - that is NOT a chip ...

It looks more like a surface mount microswitch.

However, by the fact that it can move about as easily as it appears to, I'd say that the mounting pins have sheered, so putting it back where is 'belongs' isn't going to achieve any re-connection.

The circuit board in question is not the motherboard as such - it looks from the illustration as if the 'motherboard' in the D600 is made up of separate circuit boards, each anchored to its own mounting position within the frame of the chassis.

Just putting it back where it should be is NOT the same as re-establishing the connection.

You might be better off sourcing another circuit board with the switch intact.

Buying a docking station for it, and using that to start it - the dock has its own power button. You should be able to find used docking stations cheap.
