I just recently bought a new screen for my Inspiron 1000. My old screen cracked while loading in an airplane. The screen worked for a couple of months until the liquid or whatever took over the screen. I connected a PC monitor to it and worked like that for almost a year. You could still see the backlight working everytime I open applications and things, you could see the display changing behind the blackness. So, I bought a new 15″ XGA screen brand new. I originally got the wrong screen from this company. The backlight worked, but no display. Then they sent me another screen, and that one did’t work at all. They finally sent me one that looked exactly like the one that I took out of my computer. The company I bought it from claims it worked before they sent it. Of course they test every one before it gets shipped. But now, they don’t seem to want to deal with me anymore and claim that my inverter or whatever went out. If it did, it was caused by the wrong damn screens they kept sending me. I get no backlight and I can’t make out any display at all. I checked all of the cables that plug in to the monitor. I even tried wiggling them as the computer was on. In the display settings, Windows won’t let me change any settings on the laptop screen. It shows 800×600 with 8bit color. When I select the Extend my desktop to this monitor, it does nothing to change the situation. I tried pressing the screen change function keys(Fn + F3), but that does nothing. Please tell me that I didn’t get another faulty screen.
