Dell Inspiron 1150 won’t boot with power cord attached

by sckjgs2005 . Updated 17 years, 8 months ago

My laptop froze yesterday and when I tried to reboot using the power button and with the power cord attached, all I got was a blinking cursor in upper left corner. When I disconnect the power cord, system boots but I first get blue stop error screen (sometimes the text won’t load completely on the screen), then when I re-power up, I get the screen that lets me start Windows in safe mode. Eventually, the battery went dead, so I couldn’t try anything else. I figured that the power cord was fried (we tested it with a meter and there’s definitely something wrong with it), so I bought a Kensington power cord. Now the battery will charge but I’m still getting the same results with power-up.

Any ideas as to what’s going on? I do have an extended warranty that’s good for another year, so if push comes to shove, I’ll send it to Dell.

Thanks in advance for any insights!

Sue
