Dell inspiron 1564 laptop is on but no logo screen appears

    by lightshadow177 ·

    Greetings everyone,

I have an old dell inspiron 1564 laptop. it was working just fine just day before yesterday. however, I could notice that around a month back the dell logo screen (which firstly appears when switching on the laptop) sometimes takes long time to appear, but in the end it appears with no trouble and the laptop works just fine. of course this does not happen every time I switch on the laptop, sometimes the logo screen would appear in a second. as I said everything was fine till the day before yesterday. yesterday when I pressed the switch-on button on laptop, I could see that the power LED was on, however, the screen was off completely. it did not light and of course the logo screen did not show. still I could see the laptop power LED was still on. I tried the following:

    1. I tried hard reset (I disconnected power adapter-since my laptop has no battery and it runs only on power adapter, I removed CMOS battery, then I pressed power button for 60 sec) then I returned everything back and then pressed power button, but it did not solve the problem

    2. I removed the cmos battery and left the laptop without it for hours then I put the cmos battery back and switched on the laptop, but no use

    3. I removed 2 RAM sticks and switched on the laptop, the laptop gave beeps regarding the missing RAM, so I returned back the RAM sticks and I switched on the laptop , but it did not solve the problem

    4. I tried replacing RAM, but it did not solve the problem

    5. I tried to connect the laptop to external screen via HDMI cable, but it did not solve the problem

    6. I did a screen color test by pressing the D key and the power button at the same time, the display comes on and goes through a color test successfully, however, it is not starting the logo screen once the color test finishes.

    7. I opened the laptop case, then I connected the power adapter and pressed power button to see how the fan will function, for seconds the fan was not spinning, but later it started spinning

    8. I connected a bootable USB stick and switched power button, but no use

    9. I removed SDD drive and switched on laptop in hope of getting a screen saying “no hard drive was found”, but the screen still did not show anything

    10.  I tried entering the Bios with F12, however, no luck.

on this laptop I upgraded windows 7 home into windows 10 home. and I also made Xubuntu as dual with windows 10. I replaced HDD with SDD. so what should I do next? any help w

This laptop is some 14 years old. I don’t think it’s worth to bring it to a repair shop or let Dell repair it (probably they can’t and if they can you pay more than you pay for a refurbished laptop from 2015 or so).
So the next thing to do is to buy another laptop.

It’s failed but if you must I see working 1564’s on ebay at about 30 to 50 dollars. No shop could touch this for less.

Trying to repair a 14-year-old computer is a waste of time and money IMHO. If you manage to fix the current issue on the computer, what happens if another component starts acting up? I think it’s time to cut bait and get a new computer due to the computer’s age. In addition, finding replacement parts will likely become very difficult.
