Dell Inspiron 2650 Error Code: M1004

By yuenrc ·

I have this problem with my Inspiron 2650. When I try to boot it up after the two beeps.

It seems that it can't realize the flappy, CD Rom or the hard drive. On the Setup screen, it finds no hard disk or cd-rom. They both show as 0MB. On the floppy drive it shows as 1.44MB 3 1/2". There are 2 fans, one under the heatsink, another small one on the back but both seems to be not running. I am worry that the CPU and/or the mobo is dead. Any suggestion?!? Thanks!

Please help!

what happens when you press f1 to resume? if it works ok after that, maybe you do have a bad floppy drive. you can work around it by disabling the floppy in the BIOS (that would be F2 to setup) until you can get it repaired. probably about $60 for the drive and you can do it yourself if you are patient and download the instructions from dell

M1004 Error Message Removal Utility Version A01. This utility will clear the 'Error #M1004' message that may appear after POST on Latitude C640 and Inspiron 4150 systems with BIOS versions A00 through A03, or Latitude C840 and Inspiron 8200 systems with BIOS versions A00 through A06. This ISO file will create a CD that will emulate the FLOPPY Drive and update your system. To use, burn the CD and then set your system up to boot from the CD

Hi, i went through few discussions to find solution with M1004 Error code on my Inspiron 4150 with bios A02. So what i did is to clear the heat sink, settle cpu with new heat pasta etc. used the M1004 removal tool and flash the bios to version A06. All good, ntb has starte to work with no errors and it looks prtty ok now.

Except the thing, that CPU runs only on 1.2Mhz now. Is it normal?

What exactly the M1004 removal tool do?
