Dell Latitude cPx Hard Drive not detected... help? Pwease?

By RocknRollFun ·
I have this little fossil of a Dell Latitude cPx [model:ppx] and it's not being very nice.
I can not get it to detect a hard drive. I've tried two different MoBo's, two different HDDs, and two different HDD Caddies.
I can tell it suffered a power surge initially. I replaced the power card and it booted. Everything seemed like it would work, until this pesky "Hard Drive: None" error. I've detached the CMOS, cleaned the contacts, tried to boot with an installation CD [Windows 2000, even, and it couldn't install because... surprise! no HDD was found], tried to boot with a Win 98 Disk [fdisk can't work b/c there is no fixed disk]. I can boot to Knoppix, but no HDD is detected there either.
I've tried to use one stick of RAM or the other, or both in alternating positions.
Can anyone at all suggest anything? I'm very curious as to why this would happen with 2 different sets of, well, everything.
Thank you for your time.
