Dell Monitor Blacked Out

By lking ·
I have a Dell Dimension 4600C with an LCD Flat Screen Monitor. Everything seemed to be working fine. I shutdown my computer for the night but when I tried to power it up the next morning, the screen remained black. There is power to the monitor. I have checked all the cords and plugs. And the pins all seem fine. Is there anything else I can check before I breakdown and purchse a new one?

Use the external jack

Plug a regular monitor into the jack on the back. If all looks okay there, at least the display functions and GPU are okay. You could continue to use it that way, or the display could probably be gotten from Dell for around $250. Easy replacement job. If there's no signs of boot or display on external, then the GPU or CPU are failing to start.

i would test the monitor on another machine to see if it works first. i would then check the video card for any physical problems like blown caps or anything like that. Replace the video card.
