Dell Optiplex Bios A03 - Not recognizing new DVD

By nicholevass ·
We installed a MSI DVD +r/+rw drive into a Dell Optiplex GX240 with Bios A03. The drive spins when the button is pushed, however, the BIOS is not recognizing the new drive. Does anyone know how I can get the unit to recognize the new drive?

Could be a number of things

Activity when the eject button is pressed really only indicates that it has power.

If this is an IDE drive you could check to make sure the jumper settings are correct. If you are using Cable Select you have to have Cable select for all drives on a particular chain.

Also, the cable could be bad. If it's an IDE cable it's possible that it would work only for the master and not the slave so don't assume the cable is fine if just the master works.

The GX240 is a pretty old model. The DVD drive could be a sata II drive. I haven't had to do it myself but I am pretty sure that you have to make a jumper change if you want a sata II drive to work on a sata I controller.

Is A03 the latest revision? I'd update the bios even if you didn't have a problem.
