Dell PowerEdge 1750 Prec 4/di Raid question

by work . Updated 18 years, 6 months ago

I have a Dell PowerEdge 1750 Prec 4/di server running 3 disk raid. One of the drives has failed. Warning light and drive light both flashing red.

I understand this server has hot pluggable drives. I have received a new replacement drive from dell. What is the best way to install drive?

Can I unplug the faulty drive and replace with power on and system running?
Is it better to power off then replace drive and re-boot?
Will the drive re-build itself automatically? or do I need to manage it with some sort of raid management utility?

(Sorry for all the probably simple questions – its the first time I have encountered this problem!)

Many thanks,
