Is there any way to retrieve a dell service tag number from a remote pc without user intervention?

if you're using the default load from dell it should be under C:\i386\oeminfo.ini

if you're using your own load...i don't think there is a way to get it.

Dell open management software will get information on all clients on you network.

I am using my own load. If I run Belarc Advisor (found here http://belarc.com/free_download.html) it will have the service tag in the report which leads me to believe that the service tag numbers are on the systems somewhere.

To bad the Dell open manage software is not open source but here is a much simpler solution I found. Just run this VBscript to get the service tag number.

strComputer = "."
Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:" _
& "{impersonationLevel=impersonate}!\\" & strComputer & "\root\cimv2")
Set colSMBIOS = objWMIService.ExecQuery _
("Select * from Win32_SystemEnclosure")
For Each objSMBIOS in colSMBIOS
Wscript.Echo "Serial Number: " & objSMBIOS.SerialNumber
Next
