Dell Wireless Out of Range status

By honu95 ·
Hello all,
Fairly new here and love the resources.
I have a Dell latitude D600 (XP Pro) using ProSet to set up the wireless connection. The wireless card is a 2200GB with january '04 drivers.
Unchecked windows control over wireless config., set up my wireless with our unique settings (works for every other computer), except that the option to choose 802.11g or b is grayed out AND the wireless connection complains that it is "out of range."
In the ProSet utility, the selection is stuck at 802.11b, when the default is suppose to be "use both".
I reloaded the drivers, added a new profile personally and also restarted a few times. I also was standing right under the AP so can't be out of range. It's set up for DHCP and the AP is working (pinged it with a lan computer). Could it be the card?

Thanks in advance!

Try swappin gth ecard out with a known working one, or try THAT card in one of the other computers that connect properly.

I have seen MANY wireless cards DOA.

The wireless was working a few months ago, but only recently has it done this. The laptop is nearly a year old. I am trying to install the latest driver for it (came out several days ago) and I'll report back whether it solved it or not.

OK sorry, the card is actually 2100 3A mini wireless adapter. I installed the latest driver, and the options are still the same as before. I'll try next the following suggestions. ( I think the NIC is integrated)

No I haven't installed any type of antenna or anything that could cause any interference. I'm going to try to use a pcmcia wireless card to test this. I was hoping it wasn't the card since it was working at one time. I was also reading some documentation about the 2100 3A mini and it said that it only supported 802.11b but not anything else.

OK, so it was the internal wireless card after all. Sorry it took so long..the new PCMCIA card was on order. thanks for the advice. I wonder why Dell ships their products with different hardware(wireless card), yet we order the same model everytime. Very interesting.
