Dell xps m140 will not power on

By afcpatriots ·
When the power pack is plugged into the wall the green led light comes on. When connected to the notebook the light fades out and no power is supplied to the notebook. Thinking maybe the battery, but in most cases a notebook will power up even if the battery is not connected and the pack is plugged in. Dont get it.

Possible fracture in the AC mains laptop socket ...

by OldER Mycroft In reply to Dell xps m140 will not po ...

This is the single most likely cause of power-charge failure with laptops.

The fracture within the socket is generally caused by strain being placed on the jack plug cord while connected or by the laptop falling from its perch onto the floor causing stress and trauma injury to the socket while the jack plug is inserted.

Unfortunately the usual solution is a replacement motherboard, due to any desoldering/resoldering of the motherboard-mounted jack socket usually resulting in damage to nearby surface-mounted components due to heat bleeding over.

You should take the laptop (and AC adaptor) to an approved computer tech shop for physical examination and diagnosis.
