Demote Server 2003 DC with IIS

by slvrbulet . Updated 16 years ago

Okay, here is the setup so far as I know.

My customer is running a single server with Server 2003 as a Domain Controller, SQL Server, IIS, and their EMR software.

IIS is not serving to the Internet, it is merely serving web-based applications (AntiVirus console and possibly their EMR software).

We are setting up a VMware ESX Environment which will include two Server 2008 R2 Domain Controllers.

I have the procedure for migrating/transitioning to Server 2008 R2 Domain Controller, however after this is done, we will be demoting the Server 2003 Domain Controller to raise the functional level to Server 2008.

I have researched the possible consequences of demoting a Domain Controller that has IIS on it, however I have not found any sort of solution or work around.

If I were to reinstall IIS after rejoining the server to the domain as a member server, would that fix any “broken” issues?

Are there any thoughts or suggestions other than migrating their EMR software / IIS to a separate server?

Thank you for your time.
