Denied Access to WINNT Folder

By henry.labella ·
When accessing a program (as a user)which has its "engine" in the winnt folder, the program either does not run or locks up. When accessing the same programs using a logon that has "administrator" privledges all works fine. It appears that the WINNT folder is protected. Where is the security edit found so that I might change it, I have looked in the "Local Policies", user and security options , did not find anything.. Can anyone help

Right click the folder, select properties and check under the permissions/security tab.

Also, if it's on a share, you can browse it and rights to it from the Server admin utility.

Just remember, messing up the Winnt directory = restore or re-load.

Try re-creating the persons profile by naming the old profile User.old. Once you re-create the profile, log off and log on as the user. Check the program to see if it works. If it does, check the size of the old profile folder. If it is more than 3megs, start going through the temp files, etc and deleting them. You may just want to use the new profile and move the stuff over that the user will be using (documents, etc.) Hope this helps.
