denying admin id + blue screen of death

By DyingForHelp ·
Have a question on NT. We are trying to fix a pc that we can't log on. By doing a ctrl>alt>del will give a error message of not recognizing the admin id and also gives the blue screen of death

Reload Winnt into a new directory (c:\winntnew for example), then apply the latest service pack to this installation. This will allow you to create a new administrator. You can then delete the old winnt directory (probably c:\winnt). You will notice from then on that file/folder permissions will include an "unknown" user account as having some form of permission. Don't worry about this. What this is is the old permissions from the old Winnt install. You can remove this permission withoutproblems.

Please note if you simply need to get files off you can use a boot disk (win98 startup disk for example) if you were running Win NT on a Fat partition. If it is an NTFS partition you can use a Win98 startup disk and then put in another Disk that has NTFSDosPro. This will mount the drive and make all files accessable in Dos (even bypasses security settings).
You can get NTFSDosPro at
Good Luck

I'm speechlessly impress and thankful!
Thanks so much, James!!
The PC haven't been entirely recovered but it seem to be working so far!
You've saved the day!
I'll continue posting if I run into problems . . .
