Deploy new patched software to replace old version in GPO?

Hello all,

I am a new systems administrator for a small company of 25 computers. It is a meat packing plant, so they use a program for all their tracking needs from the barn to the shipping department. The program is regularly patched. In the past, the old IT guy went to each computer and manually applied the patch (replacing the executable and creating a new shortcut). There's got to be a simpler way of doing this with a GPO, right? I am needing to take the new executable on the server and copy/paste it to a file location on every users' computer. It will then prompt to overwrite the existing executable, so I would need this to overwrite on its own [if possible]. Then, a shortcut of the program needs to be created on each users' desktop. Is this possible?
