Users PCs (XP and Wins 2000) currently joined 1 domain (eg domain1), and his desktop has a number of shortcuts and links.

Now the user's PC is to join another domain (domain2), is there any way to have his desktop settings be exactly the same as the one when he is on the old domain (domain1), that is, with all the shortcuts, links and wallpaper etc in place?

Thanks.

This really depends on where the shortcuts are stored and what they actually are. You should be able to copy the User Profile to the other Server and work that way but if there are shared documents on the first server then most likely those shortcuts will not work unless they are also copied across.

I don't know if this is feasible in this situation but it's the only sure way to do things.

1. Logout of user
2. Login as administrator user
3. Open System control panel, click Advanced, User Profile Settings
4. Select domain1 profile from list, select Copy To.
5. Select new profile in C:\Documents and Settings and make sure the domain2 user has rights to this folder. (The user must have logged in at least once for folder to show).
6. Login as user in domain2, the settings should now be the same!
