Desktop Admin and Network Security

I have a developing situation and I am looking for some advice. I have a few mission critical applications that REQUIRE ether local admin or power user privliges to operate. by giving network users these rights on the local machine how badly am I compromising my Windows NT/Win2k network security? Has anybody found a way around these PIA applications that you MUST run. I have tried hacking the registry to allow write to some registry locations but some just require local admin or Power user rights to work. This is a large topic of contention between desktop administrators and the network administrators. please advise…
