    Desktop; Can’t access this folder

    Locked

    by angel.guzman ·

I created a user on a win nt workstation login in locally. The user when he logs in gets a pop up message Desktop: Can’t access this folder, path too long. After this the user can not access the workstation. I gave the user admin rights to the wkstnand was able to login, but the minute I remove the rights, we had the same problem.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks

make sure the user has correct NTFS permissions for the folder where the desktop items is located.

Definitely an NTFS permissions problem. The user does not have sufficient permissions on the Winnt folder or its contents. Check to ensure that the “everyone – full control” default permission has not been changed on the system directories. Restrictthe user only from the folders or files that require his being restricted…NT works using an “optimistic” security policy. In other words, leave it open unless it is secret data that you wish to control access to. The proper way to restrict a usersaccess to the system files is through implementing a policy, if the default “user rights” do not already restrict him.

      Good luck,

      Ian
