Desktop Failure: Path is too long?

Error: “Limited Virtual Memory. Your system is
running without a properly sized paging file.”
and then Error: “Desktop. Can’t access this
folder. Path is too long.”

Novice NT user. Outlook wasn’t responding to
commands. Ran MsAfee ViruScan; no virus.
Tried defrag/scandisk. Unable as some app
was still running. Used the task mgr to close
apps. Still couldn’t run scandisk. Restarted
CPU. Got errors & no desktop. How can I
access my pc files?
