Desktop Icons

Running Windows XP Home on 2 HP laptop I have to boot My computer twice to get my icons to show up.

Can any one help?

Provided that you do not have malware/spyware installed, you most likely have some damaged files. I recommend:

Scanning the system for spyware/malware and viruses.

If this is clean, run an in-place installation of XP. Details here:

You may have a corrupted icon cache file.
At a command prompt, change to the %SystemRoot% folder
remove the hidden attribute from the file:
type attrib -h shelliconcache and press ENTER.
delete the file:
type del shelliconcache and press ENTER.
logoff and backon and the default icons should be restored

A very simple way is to install Iconoid.exe
