When I move the pointer near an icon on a Windows98 desktop the icon(s) near the pointer move away as if they are like magnets? Is this a known virus and how do I resolve this problem?

Thanks

Yes it is a virus. I can't recall what it is but I just happened to run across it the other day. The best way to resolve this issue is to run some sort of virus scan.

Bad news, this is one of the late signs of infection for the Magistr 24876 virus. It will infect files on the HDD and send them out with its own SMTP. You are in the late stages of infection if the virus is moving icons-- it will try to rewrite cmos and flash chips-- making the pc unbootable. You need to get it removed-- Try symanetc.com and download a trial version of Norton Antivirus - make sure you run live update before you check for virus. If you dont it detects magistr as another typeof virus.
Hope this helps.

This is also the side effect of a prank that you can download and install from the internet. FYI.
