Desktop Icons disappeared

By kashmeir63 ·
Hi,

I have a windows nt4.0 computer w/service pak4 installed. I cleared the cmos on the mother board now all the desktop icons have disappeared. I'm unable to left or right click the mouse.. The screen comes up blank. I do get the logon screen,to logon to the network all seems okay until' I get to the desktop(nothing there).I'm able to enter ms-dos and see all the files...

I have a couple of questions to ask you Does the motherboard have built in video? What Kind of mouse are you using If you are using a usb mouse you will need to enable Legacy devices in your bios also if you have a motherboard with built in video and Have installed a videocard in your pci slot you need to disable the onboard video card

your issue has nothing to do with the cmos. when logged in and you see nothing on the desktop, press control shift escape. in the task manager, go to file, new task, and type explorer. If the desktop comes up then you have an issue with nt, not your cmos.
