Desktop reset

I lost my desktop yesterday and can’t find all the vital information I had on it including my background picture. I used to have a Windows operating system that could restore a session upon request at a determined date and time. Does anybody know of the same type of reset with which I could go back to a period before I lost everything ? I know my information is not really lost but the work involved in resetting the whole desktop is scaring me to death. Thanks !
