Desktop Right-Click Mouse Menu Problem

By scenicphoto ·
For some reason, lately, when I place my mouse pointer on an empty space on the Desktop, and Right-Click my mouse for the Menu to come up...it takes forever to come up, and, sometimes it even freezes up and I have to re-boot to get back to work. What can I do of fix to take care of this?

Update your Virus Scanner and install Spy Ware Scanners and run them in Safe Mode once everything is up to date and remove any infections found.

You most likely have some kind of infection that is taking a lot of Clock Cycles of your CPU's usage and slowing down your system.

You can get Spy Ware Scanners at the following

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

If this doesn't cure your problem and you haven't run anything like Tweak UI you can try the trial version of System Mechanic to scan for errors on your HDD and within Windows

Just Do Not use the remove Duplicate Files Option as it will stop your System from working at all.

If all of the above fail to cure your problem a Repair Installation of Windows is your only option left Put your XP CD into the CD Drive and boot from it and when you get to the Install section chose the Repair Option this will reinstall windows and keep all of your current software working and provided that you don't have a software clash causing the problem should fix it for you.

Right mouse delay

by perbrondum In reply to Desktop Right-Click Mouse ...

In my case the (up to 40 sec) right mouse delay in XP (32 bit) was fixed by removing 'network drives' that were unavaialbe. Seems XP is looking for the drives when you right mouse an item.
