    Desktop switches on/off while charging?

While plugged in, and idle, the display on its own goes dark and then switches back on. Why is this happening, How do I fix this?

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
    1) Reinstalled graphic drivers
    2) Ran DISM.exe- restorehealth
    3) Updated to the latest windows 10 v 21H1.

Are you referring to a laptop computer instead ?? Desktop computers rarely run off a battery and are always plugged in, they aren’t charged. How old is the computer/monitor ? Is this a new issue ? What type of computer (make/model or home built). Does this happen regularly or just occasionally ?

I have a laptop computer, Intel Core i3- Windows 10 Home, which is around 4 years old. It has following display adaptors:
        AMD Radeon RS M330
        Intel HD Graphics 520.

This is a new issue and has never occurred before. The display toggles on/off as in the laptop is running and only the display turns on/off. This happens only while charging. When I am using it while charging, it does not happen.

          So let’s get this straight.

          While charging:
          1. Sitting there the display turns on then off.
          2. Use it and it’s fine.

This sounds like the power saving kicks in and then something wakes it. At least it doesn’t sound like a hardware issue.

Try the setting in the power settings for screen timeout to a higher value for now.

The on/off toggling i mentioned is a constant one, not just one-time, i.e., the display switches between on/off every 2 seconds until I start using it or unplug it. Like a blinking flashlight.

Also my screen timeout is set at 10 mins. This happens way before.

Does it do this in Safe Mode?

          by rproffitt ·

That would be my next test.

Also, I would not skip changing the setting I noted. Double it. We can always put it back. I’ve lost count of issues like that that vanish after a settings change, reboot or boot to safe mode. That can really annoy folk that want to know why this happened.

My answer. Take it and run.

      Why does this need fixing?

This display behaviour is not normal and I’m worried it might have an adverse effect on my laptop.

A work around until this is solved.

Set the power settings to go into hibernate when the lid is closed.
When not using the laptop while charging shut the lid. The screen won’t flicker and the charging will go faster.
