Does anyone know of an article or have proof that large bitmap pictures set as desktop wallpaper slows system performance?

Actually, large jpegs slow performance, as they rely on the internet explorer extensions called Active Desktop, but support for bitmaps is built-in to the Windows OS, and native support is almost always faster, and in my wide experience with different users, machines, and desktops, using bmp instead of jpg will speed system performance ...
