Desktop Wallpaper Disappears in Windows XP

By qballrail ·
After I had my manager's notebook computer hooked up to the projector, he lost his wallpaper. The resolution has to be changed for proper viewing to 800x600 from 1024x768.

The picture is still there because it appears during logon, then once the icons populate, the picture disappears. Strangely enough, doing a search for the file produces nothing.

Thanks!

For his/her wallpaper? and where did it come from? (when from a different sourse than that supplied, it should be kept also in 'my pictures' -just a sugestion for the future)

Just a common .jpg and you are right, it SHOULD reside in \my pictures. But either he did not put it there or it's somehow been deleted. I assume he simply applied it as desktop background from the preview.

The strange thing is, the picture IS still someplace in the system because it appears at logon, but once all the startup processes complete, it disappears.

Try this from JSIfaq

by dnlpcs In reply to Desktop Wallpaper Disappe ...

I have been having the same problem as you describe, and I believe this is the solution. I hope so anyway, as I won't be able to try it right away.

If this isn't it, Google "windows wallpaper disappears" and see if you find it in the results, as that is where this appeared as one of many options.

Good luck!

Try this

Whenever that happens to me, I can still find the wallpaper in the following directory:
%SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft
