Detecting “in use” IP addresses

Does anyone know of a utility to ping all IP’s in a newtork, and report which ones are in use/taken? 192.168.1.1-255

I have taken over tech support for a small company, the previous tech (long gone) had a mix of manually assigned IP’s and DHCP’s. I am trying to determine what devices are attached, how and where.
