Determine what app initiated a dial-out?

By EDIBOSS ·
I have an NT server used for EDI communications. Whenever the system is rebooted a dial-out is initiated when the system is up-and-running again. This dialout continues to redial for about 1 hour. How can I determine what application may start this dialout process? Obviously I need to modify it. Task manager gives no hints!

Determine what app initiated a dial-out?

Have you gone into Event Viewer (through Administrator Tools) and checked your system and application logs? hint: you'll need to have the proper rights to play around and fully exploit all options in Event viewer.

First make sure that you are auditing Process Tracking (and while you're at it do File and Object Access Auditing too) Warning: Auditing Process Tracking in high traffic servers can slow you down, so shut it off after you are done trouble shooting.

Again, you need the correct rights (unless you are Administrator account - then obviously you have all rights) to set auditing events.

Reboot after you have set all the right audit events then when the problem presents itself again, go straight for the Event View and look at your logs for more information and see what NT can tell about what's bugging it.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for the direction. I did as you suggested Tom, and I was able to find the culprit.
