Develop Software for Training Center

By gmcclure ·
I am looking at creating a training/knowledge center for a company of 300 people. We are a telecomm company with offices in nine states. I have a very good developer but we don't know how to strategically plan our site. Suggestions appreciated!

Have you had a look at the product Registrar? We looked at it with a view to making it our trainig database and it wouls seem to focus on internal training. You get a nice demo Cd that you could use as a basis for idea.

Greg:

I just left that world and have some pretty interesting "war stories." I can tell you that taking risks will be key. You will never be able to meet the need of a start up telecom company by using traditional training organization models.

I have an article on the web site right now, which kind of walks you through what I did.

A few other thoughts:

Closely align yourself with the marketing group. First, they have more resources than you'd ever hope to have. Second, they have a firm knowledge of industry trends.

Second, poll your employees. They probably have great ideas. Your employees are experts at defining their own needs.

Hope that helps

wf.

Greg,

First&Formost. You must get the blessing and material support of the corporate honcho(s). Nothing will last without it.

In other words; be prepared to show that the training can pay it's own way. Is it enhancing bottom line? The Human Resources line? The Personal/Professional Growth line? You get the drift ...

InHouse, through Direct hire, or partner with training/www Co. you need an entity in charge of the training postion. Full or part time. InHouse or OutSourced.

Convince your offices (in 9 States) to partner with local training resources, and share with the rest of you.

Allocate resources (hardware, software, people) to bring together a "Knowledge base" of existing information.

Enlist the aid of yourenterprise/network/administrators to pull in "public" information. You will be pleasantly suprised the breadth of training-info that is BURIED on each "C:/" drive!

Plenty more, but this is good start.

Enjoy :)

If you have Lotus Notes installed there is a package called learning space in Lotus Notes that is excellent to use. I have created the user profiles and set up the courses and the student do the assignments when they have time and submit them via e-mail directly to me, all I have to do is open the database do the assesment and the marks are returned directly to the student.
