Device connected but not showing in device manager

By wihicauyivpz ·
I have a Sharp XE-A201 cash register that has suddenly decided not to work on my PC.
The device does not show up in the device manager even when I set up the DM to show all hidden devices. The thing is, it works fine on my DH's PC. This is the error message I get:

ECR-type error: Check machine type on ECR or COM on PC.............whatever tha means??
I checked the COM port using some type of software I downloaded & it is open. What am I not doing right?

ECR at a guess stands for Electronic Cash Register

The error message is telling you to check the Electronic Cash Register connected to the COM Port and make sure that it is the correct machine type meaning Model.

At a guess I would say that you have installed the wrong drivers for this device.

Hidden Devices

You didn't say if the connection was on a USB or Comm port. Either way this link to a Tech Republic article has helped with numerous misbehaving USB devices and other peripherals that just stop working:

unable to get a connection between cash regster & PC

I'm sorry I should have said com port connection. I followed the instructions given in the link you gave me to to view and remove the unnecessary device drivers, but it is NOT shown there
I upgraded to Vista a few days ago & surprisingly some of my XP issues have been resolved, just NOT this one.
